post marital medusa

Some of the most unhappy looking people I’ve ever seen in my life are married women between the ages of 25-32. It’s like someone gave them horns and a spiky tail as a wedding gift. These women have typically stopped participating in the following list of female social norms: wearing make up, smiling, having manners, smelling good, and being fun at all. I can understand that once one is married one can “let go” and “do what you want”, but this is ridiculous. I know one such post-marital Medusa(or PMM for short) that works with me occasionally in the cafeteria. No such single person funeral procession has ever been seen but by this woman’s forlorn frown and uncivilized manner, when she looks at me my friends, pure evil. Just yesterday when cleaning the cafeteria at 7:00am, tunes blasting to encourage my eyes to stay open, this PMM barges in late to work, walks straight to the stereo and turns it off. This may seem of no consequence to you who do not clean floors for a living, but a janitor without a jig is like Paris without love. Under normal circumstances I would say something but for fear of this PMM’s snake-like paralyzing look nothing was said. I thought married people were supposed to be happy, but I suppose that happiness is directed only to one person leaving all others out. Thus, the PMM’s spouse is diluted to thinking that she is nice to everyone while little does he know that she is in fact the present day incarnation of Medusa herself. Maybe I should call up some spiritual Bible school people to help me cast this demon of post-marital Medusa while she’s not looking.

There is a theory that a lot of women in the 25 - 32 age range marry for security first and love second. They have had a good time before but agree to marry someone who they may not love in the physical sense for fear of of being left behind. So yes they look unhappy. Their love grows though so as they get older and they they realise they made the right choice after all and then they do as you say let go and are happy. Golly this sounds awful but Barbara read something out from the paper that was similar yesterday

I agree, Brent. Interesting comment--maybe that explains it. When's your spring break? We might be in Colorado around March 6.

it's because they're having bad sex or none at all. most women have issues when they first get married and that puts them off of sex all together until they finally figure it all out. i don't understand these women how could you NOT want to have sex?

Kaylie not everyones happiness is directly linked to sex. I would guess that this women grew up being told that life just magically becomes easy when you get married. That you are happy with yourself and everyone else. Now years later surprise surprise it's not true. Marriage is work. And since she thought marrriage was the key to happiness she probably wasn't picky about who she married. So when she returns home at night to her husband who spends the majority of their money or beer well sitting around with his guys friend dreaming of the day there wives turn into supermodels. Wouldn't you be bitter. just a thought.

brent, I sympathize with you for I, too, also work in the cafetaria/dishroom, and many a time has a pmm (the bosses, there's TWO of them) come in and just completely ruin the mood and atmosphere of our work station. i was thinking of calling them pmb (guess what the b stands for). did you get those pictures?
